All About Chevrons – A Practical Scrappers Specialty Team Blog Hop

Welcome to the Specialty Team’s first Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from Kim Ryden‘s site. If not and you want to go back to the beginning, head on over to the Practical Scrappers site and start anew. Remember that Practical Scrappers is doing a giveaway. Scrapbook Pal has graciously offered to sponsor this hop and we are going to be giving away a $25 gift certificate to their store!  Details on how to enter are on the Practical Scrappers blog.

Today we are sharing projects using one of the hottest trends on the market right now, CHEVRONS. Love them or hate them they seem to be here to stay (for a bit longer anyway) and are showing up in all sorts of colour variations, sizes and embellishments. Instead of creating something new for you all today I decided to take a look back at 5 of my favourite projects that featured chevrons as well as show you 5 NEW products featuring Chevrons that I am excited to see in my local stores!

Ready? Here we go. Continue reading

SWAT Drill #12 – Only Using Patterned Paper!

Good Saturday morning everyone! The sun is shining, my girls are coming home today and there’s a new challenge up on the SWAT blog. What a great way to start the weekend, right? Once I get through my shifts at work, that is. 🙁 That’s the one poopy thing about working retail AND having the availability I have. Evenings and weekends, baby, evenings and weekends.

Today’s layout talks a bit about my feelings of missing the particular trip to the beach that I’ve documented because I had to work. It’s tough! But on the bright side, my efforts at work have been recognized and rewarded with a promotion. I will become the newest Sales Leader at my store starting in August! Yay me!! It means a TON more responsibility for a little bit more pay. Ah well, I’ll take what I can get. It also means more predictable shifts, more guaranteed hours per week and the need to find a tiny bit of child care some nights. Sigh. You gotta take the good with the bad, right?

Well, I think I’ve taken you on a big enough tangent this morning. Shall we get back to the new SWAT challenge? This week we’ve got a sketch for you to follow and are challenging you to put away your card stock. Put it away, I say!! Grab your favourite patterned paper and work only with that!

Here’s the sketch.

Another Pinterest Inspired Project for Practical Scrappers

Today over at Practical Scrappers, we are sharing some projects inspired by posts seen on Pinterest. Are you on Pinterest? If so I would love to connect with you there. Here’s  a link to my boards, you can leave yours in the comments section.

Pinterest has become a fantastic way to gather images that inspire you and share your own projects and products in the hopes of inspiring others. I admit to losing myself a little bit when looking for said inspiration! Things like a 15 minute time limit are excellent tools to remember when surfing the internet!

For today’s post I created an art journal page. I’ve been horribly negligent of my 365 to 40 Art Journal!! With my 40th birthday now only 2.5 months away … I’d better get cracking!! Here’s my page.

Sigh …

While I am enjoying my girls being away with their Grandparents for a week, I thought I’d scrap some fairly random photos of what a particular corner of our family room looks like on a regular basis. Only worse!

I’m playing along with another of Shimelle’s Sketch to Scrapbook Page sketches and am just squeaking this one in under the wire!

Here’s the sketch I’m using.

As you can see, I changed things up a bit to incorporate 2 landscape 4×6 prints plus one portrait 4×6 instead of the two portrait photos shown in the sketch.

Here are some close up shots of the details.

Note to self: remember that your Perfect Pearls are still wet before you accidentally brush against it while applying Stickles to the flower centres!!

I struggled a bit with the title. I went back and forth between a long title along the lines of “this is what happens when you give a girl some scissors” to “creative play” but in the end went with something that reflected how I feel and what my reaction is every time I look at this area of my house. I’m really not sure what I was thinking would happen when I created a “craft table” for my girls. But the reality of how messy this area is ALL THE TIME depresses me. The loving mother in me embraces my daughter’s creativity but the neat freak in me (yes, I do have an inner neat freak despite evidence to the contrary) cringes when I look at this Corner of Chaos!

I have been loving all the cork accents I’ve been seeing on the boards lately and have so far resisted the temptation to stock up at Michael’s. On a recent purge of my scrap bin though I came across some sticky back cork scraps so I got to work with my Big Shot and some Nestabilities to create my own.

That’s it. Off to add my linky and then hop in the shower. I have a rare Sunday off work so Greg and I are planning to head to the Ladner market for the first time this summer. We love to wander all the stalls and the opportunity to do it sans enfants is one not to be passed up! Hope you all have a great Sunday. I’ll be back tomorrow with another Let’s Get Sketchy layout reveal. See you then!

So This Is What Life Looks Like With No Kids

No, I haven’t sold my children (although, we’re not even 2 weeks into summer and I’m a little tempted!!) Today I am sharing a layout I made using another Sketch to Scrapbook sketch from Shimelle Lain. I shared a layout using Sketch #18 on Tuesday (see it here) and today I am using Sketch #19.
