Welcome to the Specialty Team’s first Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from Kim Ryden‘s site. If not and you want to go back to the beginning, head on over to the Practical Scrappers site and start anew. Remember that Practical Scrappers is doing a giveaway. Scrapbook Pal has graciously offered to sponsor this hop and we are going to be giving away a $25 gift certificate to their store! Details on how to enter are on the Practical Scrappers blog.
Today we are sharing projects using one of the hottest trends on the market right now, CHEVRONS. Love them or hate them they seem to be here to stay (for a bit longer anyway) and are showing up in all sorts of colour variations, sizes and embellishments. Instead of creating something new for you all today I decided to take a look back at 5 of my favourite projects that featured chevrons as well as show you 5 NEW products featuring Chevrons that I am excited to see in my local stores!
Ready? Here we go.
#5 – Camera Shy
I chose this one for a couple reasons. It’s not the greatest layout, I admit. It feels a bit haphazard and thrown together to me. Which it was! This was my very first attempt at creating a Start To Finish layout video (click on the photo to be taken to the original post so you can see it … if you dare mwa ha ha ha!!!) Scrapping on camera is a very different experience than scrapping quietly in my little nook with no one watching!! 🙂 As I tend to dig into my scrap basket as soon as I’ve picked my back ground paper, this layout represents that well. Plus there are 2 different chevron patterns on here!
#4 – Happy 40th Birthday
This was done for a blog post over at Scrapbook News and Review Magazine. If you click on the photo you will be taken to the post where you’ll see the photo inspiration I used to get my colour palette. For the papers I used a 6×6 My Mind’s Eye paper pad. Did you know that the designs in a 6×6 paper pad are the exact same ones on their 12×12 papers only scaled down? This makes them perfect for card making! Also, if you find the scale of a design intimidating in a 12×12 version, odds are the 6×6 size will be more manageable. This was the case with the green chevron you see on this card.
#3 – Can’t Get Enough Soccer
For this layout I first adapted a chevron cut file that I downloaded from the Silhouette store to be 12″ x 12″ then I cut it onto thin chipboard. Voila! Instant misting mask for my hand made ombre paper.
#2 – For The Love of Owls
Here I used traditional chevrons (the gorgeous Dear Lizzy vellum) as well as a variation on the chevron – the arrow print paper (also Dear Lizzy). There may not be a ton of chevron print on this layout but the little glimpses you get of that hoardable vellum is enough to make this layout fall in my top 5 favs.
And my #1 favourite – China Dolls
I just love this paper from Crate Paper’s The Pier collection. The giant chevrons. The rainbow of colour. The distressed feel to the image. What’s not to love, right?
Okay, now you’ve seen my favourite projects, here’s a look at some new products that will be hitting the shelves soon.
#1 – Crate Paper has done it again. All the collections contain some sort of chevron pattern but there is one collection in particular I wanted to show you. It’s called Close Knit and here are a few of my favourite patterns from it.
The grey one reminds me of a v-neck sweater and while it may not be a chevron in the traditional sense, it still fits in my book!
Chevron + wood grain = total and complete BLISS!
And last but not least, that is a chevron out of lace. LACE!! Be still my beating heart!!
#2 – Bella Blvd is releasing a line of basics and the ones I wanted to show you are called … appropriately enough … Daily Chevies. Check it out.
See that top row of multi coloured chevrons? The collection has 6 papers each with a different tone on tone chevron on one side and then one of the other patterns you see on the other. How cool is that?!
#3 – Allison Kreft’s new Christmas line for Webster’s Pages made me swoon when I saw it (view a preview vid at Two Peas here). She’s got papers with chevrons but I saw these that I want to share with you today.
Aren’t these the cutest little envelopes? They’d be perfect in a December Daily to tuck event tickets into or (for me) the notes I leave my girls in their Advent Calendar.
#4 – My Mind’s Eye came out with a new Halloween line which includes these frame-able cards.
See that one with the witches hat? It says “The Witch Is In!” I NEED one of those for all year round!! LOL! Oh, and it doesn’t show in this picture but the orange parts are glitter! Fun!!
#5 – Also from My Mind’s Eye are new colour packs of washi Decorative Tape.
Each pack comes with 7 or 8 different tapes in it, all in the same colour palette. Each pack has one version with a chevron motif. ALL the motifs are super cute though, no?
Well that’s my round up. Now you’re off to Dawn Carlyle’s blog. In case you get lost here is a list of all the designers participating today.

Thanks for hopping with us today. Please leave me a comment and one lucky person will receive a goody bag from me. So far it’s got some brads, metal tabs, calendar tags, journaling spots, stickers, vellum butterflies and several papers and letter sticker sheets. I’ll keep adding to it over the weekend and draw a name on Monday. To get your name in the drawing you just have to leave me a comment. Good luck everyone! Have a great weekend!
As a funny coincidence – Bella Blvd has just posted a HUGE giveaway of all (yes, ALL) their new lines. Including the Daily Chevies that I talked about above. To check it out and get your name in the hat, go here.
