Here’s a little sneak at the Grand Prize!!
Some of you may have seen a new – slightly goofy … okay, very goofy – photo of me in my side bar. Consider this your official invitation to celebrate my 40th birthday with me!
I will be counting down the last 30 days of my 30’s right here on the blog with PRIZES, FREE DOWNLOADS, TIPS, TECHNIQUES, VIDEOS and much, much, more. Some of my good friends are helping me celebrate with coupon codes and free graphics for you. It is very exciting!!
To join in the fun simply click on my goofy face and sign up for my NEW mailing list. You’ll receive a link to a secret page where all the free downloads will be posted. Right now there is a PDF sharing my Top Ten Tips for Finishing a Project, but once the fun starts, more files will be added.
Everything gets going on August 31st and will last the whole month of September.

See you then!!
This week’s drill at SWAT is right up my alley. A Use It Up drill!! I have been digging deep into my stash all year, finding and using lots of lovely supplies long buried and forgotten. With Summer CHA over and new products hitting the store shelves, the temptation to add lots of new gorgeous goodies to my stash is strong (and I may or may not have caved a tiny bit!!) but now more than ever it is important to look into my stash first. There are so many gorgeous supplies in there! I am completely guilty of STILL hoarding beautiful papers, stickers, and brads etc, waiting for that “perfect layout” to use them on.
Say what?!
I know, right. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!! Meanwhile the manufacturers are doing their utmost to put out even more beautiful, hoardable, products. So, today I dug deep – really deep – and found some old Jenni Bowlin journaling stickers, some old washi tape (not really a sticker but still stick-y!!) and some old Sassafras flower stickers to create this layout.
For some reason I am having trouble uploading photos to my site. Kind of a bummer when my posts are usually pretty photo heavy!
So until I can get it figured out I will be uploading all scrappy goodness to my Flickr page – you can see it here.
Thanks for your understanding. Keep your fingers crossed that I can figure out the bug soon!
Welcome to August! With the new month brings all new sketch challenges over at Let’s Get Sketchy. Team A is always up first which is exciting for me as that is my team! Here is the fun sketch we are using this week.
As soon as I saw this I was reminded of Glitter Girl’s latest challenge which was to use border strips on a layout. I have a fairly large collection of border strips so I decided to take on her challenge and see what sort of a dent I could put in that particular stash. Here’s what I came up with.
Behind the photo I have layered border strips from 3 different packs as well as 3 paper strips (you know, the ones that gather at the side of your trimmer when you cut down your 12×12 papers?) There’s some Teresa Collins, some K&Co and some s.e.i. borders in the mix. You might think that mixing so many different manufacturers from different years wouldn’t work but I was pleased to find similar colours in these packs. They all ended up playing quite nicely together!
The journaling speaks for itself but I do want to comment on how I created the space to place it. The background paper (Simple Stories) already had text on it so adding hand writing directly on top wouldn’t have worked. I could have added a journaling box but I didn’t want to add another box to this layout. I’d picked up a pack of Simple Stories labels in all sorts of colours so I decided to layer several here in colours that I pulled from the layout.
I then used those same colours in the title.
For some reason the photo I took of the different border strips I’d used isn’t loading properly so I will work on it on my end and if it decides to cooperate, I’ll put it here. Wish me luck!!
While you wait, I hope you either go and create your own layout using this sketch or spend some time visiting the other blogs of Team A for their takes on it. Leave me a comment – if you dare – confessing what your oldest border strip is. I think those K&Co ones of mine might be going on 3 years old. Yikes!! Not sure what I was saving them for but it feels good to finally use them.
Have a great week!
Wow! Is it already Saturday?! Where did this week go? And while we’re on the subject of time flying, it’s August. August?! That signifies that summer (at least around here) is half over. School is a mere month away.
…
Oh, sorry, had to do my happy dance there!!
I love my kids. Deeply. But they are driving me a little bit nuts and I will love them just a teeny bit more when I don’t see them for 6 hours a day!! 🙂
But back to the business of today. A new month means a new set of challenges over at S.W.A.T. We are starting off by embracing a current trend. The one of TRIANGLES.
Did you see all the wonderful examples on the blog? We have a super talented team, don’t we? I am so lucky to work with these ladies! Continue reading
