My Girls – LGS Sketch Reveal

It’s Monday which means there’s a new sketch up on the Let’s Get Sketchy blog and it’s Team A’s turn to inspire you with our interpretations of it.

Here’s the sketch.

LGS July TeamA Week2

And here’s what I did with it.

I recently downloaded the memory card from our small point and shoot camera and discovered that my daughter’s had been having fun snapping pics of each other. This sketch seemed perfect to show case 3 of those photos.

As I was trying to decide what to write about, I noticed a few journaling cards laying out on my desk and realized I could pair the photos with a journaling card and just write little notes about each girl. I’d picked up some Heidi Swapp photo frames on a recent trip to Michael’s (please tell me how I can get back on my “no buying new stuff” wagon!!) I trimmed each photo to fit in the frames and then chose 3 journaling cards.

Here’s more about the details.

There was a lot going on pattern-wise with this layout so I really wanted to make sure the title stood out. In my hunt through my stash for an alphabet sticker that would work I found some wood veneer letters (Pink Paislee, I think). I’d used Stampin’ Up’s Basic Grey ink to ink my edges so I used that to colour the wooden letters. Also in the packet of letters were some hearts so I coloured a few of them too and scattered them around. That way the dark letters become a cohesive part of the layout.

More hoarded stickers finally making to a layout! This layered phrase sticker just seemed perfect for this layout.

Here’s a closer look at my journaling. I took a cue from Ali Edwards and used the same two words – “Right now” – to start each line of my journaling. She uses this technique a ton and after having used it myself, I can now see the appeal.

My embellishments consisted of some splatters of silver glitter paint (from Martha Stewart), brads, the inked hearts and some old Stampin’ Up dahlia embellishments.  It was fun to use items from my stash and scatter them about. Sometimes you’ve just got to have fun, you know?!

Well, there you have it. Now it’s your turn. Link up your newly created layout to the Let’s Get Sketchy blog by Saturday to be eligible to be featured as our Favourite of the week. The prize up for grabs this month is a $25 gift certificate to Scraptown Lady and all you have to do to be eligible to win that is complete 3 out of 4 sketches.
