SWAT Drill #9 – Colour Palette Challenge

Good Saturday morning everyone!

When you read this I will be relaxing in the sunny Okanagan with some girl friends.

Ah!

A Girls Weekend!

No kids.

No husband.

Nothing to do except relax, read a book and have adult conversations.

Sounds like heaven!! As I write this I still need to pack but I had to make sure this was all set up to go as I’m not sure what, if any, wifi access I’ll have. Unplugging sounds nice too!

Today also marks the first day of June (when did that happen?!) and another challenge over at SWAT. This week’s challenge is a colour combination one. And this one got me in the mood for my weekend away. Check it out.

Doesn’t that just scream summertime and pools?

I decided to use it to scrap some really recent pictures of my girls and a veritable posse from the neighbourhood that camped out at the bottom of our driveway selling lemonade. Since Marley was involved, the money had to go to a good cause and this time they chose to donate to a local animal shelter. Love my girls and their huge hearts!!

Here’s my layout.

If you saw this post where I tried to use up an entire 12×12″ sticker sheet, you might recognize that large ‘friends’ sticker. Yup, still using up that sheet! Plus I have another one exactly the same but let’s not get into my stash issues, okay?

The floral and the striped papers are also Bella Blvd (possibly from the same collection?) and the polka dot is from Simple Stories – one of their SNAP album pages. It may bother some of you that I’m not using it as a book page or that I actually hid the label decoration on the page but all I wanted was the yellow polka dots so I am totally okay with hiding the rest. Theoretically I could have trimmed it and save the top half to use somewhere else but I didn’t and that’s okay!

While creating a layout for an upcoming blog post over at Scrapbook News and Review, I dug out some old Dear Lizzy chipboard embellishments including this lemon one. When I started creating this layout I immediately grabbed them again. I don’t necessarily advocate the matchy-matchy, theme based embellishments but these lemons plus the glass of lemonade were just calling to me! There is no point in turning up my nose at a cutesy smiling lemon when it could be put to good use on a layout!

Here’s a close up shot of that ‘friends’ sticker. I added the smaller letters to further tell the story quickly. Sometimes it helps to add words in other places that tell bits of the story. You can repeat it all in your journaling but not everyone is going to want to read all of your journaling so if you can leave other clues on your page as to what’s going on or who is in the pictures, it can go a long way.

I am placing these two pictures next to each other so you can read all the journaling and see a close up of the title. I started my journaling above the title but had more to say so continued it on the striped paper. I really, really, really wanted blue Thickers for the title but I do not own any navy blue Thickers (how did that happen?) so I had to piece together various other blue alphabet stickers from my stash. And yes, that is actually a ‘z’ not an ‘n’ at the end of ‘season’! Gotta get creative at times, right?

Don’t forget that we have prizes associated with our challenges. Here’s the prize for Drill #9.

Okay, I’ve really got to pack now. Have an awesome weekend everyone. Can’t wait to see what you create from this colour palette!!
