Happy Father’s Day

This is what Christine and I came up with last night for Greg (Marley and Paige did their projects at school.)

I gave Christine a piece of Whisper White card stock and a couple images from the Best Dad Ever stamp set along with 3 colours of ink and let her go nuts. VERY hard to give up control like that!! I think the results are pretty good though. She is only 3 after all!!
I chose what I considered the best portion of the “masterpiece” and used my Top Note die to cut it out in a pleasing manner. Does the colour scheme look familiar? I totally stole it from the card in my last post – the papers too! The one substitution I made was Island Indigo instead of Pool Party I think this may be my new go-to colour scheme and papers for masculine cards!!

Here’s the inside sentiment.
And this is what the entire set looks like.

Get Well card

Greg emailed me yesterday asking me to create a Get Well Soon card for a colleague who had broken his leg. Sure, I said, no problem. I’ll just whip something up! Ha!! If you ask me to make a card for a girl I’m good. Flowers, pink, lace, hearts, butterflies, glitter, done! But ask me to make a card for the masculine of the species and I am stumped.

Stampin’ Up!s new Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper to the rescue! It’s gorgeous kraft based card stock that’s been embossed with a variety of designs in brown. Here, take a look ..

Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper

I took the wood grain pattern, ran it through my Big Shot and came up with this …

The stamp set is called Word Play and is a great set for all occasions. I also used a piece of First Edition Specialty DSP and the argyle pattern stamp from Patterned Party on some Pool Party card stock to create extra texture. Backing the sentiment is a piece of International Bazaar DSP. This pack has some great patterns and colours that I think are going to be good for masculine layouts and cards. I can’t wait to use more of it on future projects!

There are more layers here than I normally would use but I really like the end product. Thanks for stopping by. Links to all the products featured on this card are listed below.

First Girls Weekend

One of the blogs I like to stalk is Shimelle Lain’s. She runs a regular challenge called Starting Point where she  gives you the base of a layout and then her finished layout and you give it a go with your own products. Here is the link to the most recent Starting Point post.

Since I am now the proud owner of a whole box full of new Stampin’ Up! products, I got busy this afternoon. Here’s what I came up with …

It’s a bit out of my normal style but I have been watching Shimelle (and her alter-ego Glitter Girl) create layouts with piles of layers and I just love them!
Here’s the finished layout.

This is the Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper and it is SO YUMMY!! Soft Suede (my favourite of the Neutrals), Cajun Craze, Pool Party, Very Vanilla and Midnight Muse – one of my new favourites from the 2012 – 2014 In Colours Collection.

And the butterflies … as soon as I saw the new butterfly punch and matching stamp set I knew it would be on my first order. It does not disappoint! Other new items are the Ticket Duo Punch, the Simply Serif Alphabet stamps, the Flowering Flourishes stamp and the Bigz Alphabet Typeset dies for the Big Shot.

Aren’t those little butterflies darling?
Here are the links to all the products. Thanks for stopping by.

Something completely different for you

I started listening to PRT (Paperclipping RoundTable) a few months ago and let me tell you, these guys are hilarious, SUPER informative and keep me inspired. They are also great at keeping me up to date on new products and industry news. I haven’t listened to this episode yet but hope to do so today. I like to turn it on and scrap away – helps my creative process I think!

Grab a cup of coffee or (like me) some photos that have been calling out to be scrapped, and enjoy!

I’m ba-ack!!

Wow! It’s been awhile since I posted anything here!
Life has been more chaotic than usual and on top of that, I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the retiring lists and the new catalogue. Somewhere along the way, my mojo has been hard to find.
We also took a trip to Disneyland which really put a wrench into my creative routine! But we are back and I am back creating layouts so it’s time to share one with you now.

I have been attempting to participate with Lain’s LOAD challenge this month but have only managed to complete 8 or 9 layouts (travel will do that to you!). Today her challenge was to use something from the last layout we had done. Well, my last layout was this one. Do you see that flower in the lower left corner? I made it using my Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (the 4-petal flower). I was left with a piece of 12×12″ paper with all these little flower shapes punched out of it (in basically a straight line) and I wondered if I could use them as a stencil of some sort. As I was playing with it and my Daffodil Delight ink, it became sun rays and I knew what the rest of my layout needed to be. I grabbed some Flirtatious Specialty DSP, some of the card stock flowers and pink jewels from the Blossom Builders Designer Printed Kit (that I’d be hoarding for some unknown reason!) and very quickly put this together.

Here is a close up of two of the flowers I made with the kit and my journaling. It reads: May 6, 2012 First Day in the Magic Kingdom. The sun had yet to come out but our smiles and the excitement of the girls was as bright as the sun became later. What an awesome trip!

I love Stampin’ Up! products. Really I do. But … they do not make alphabet stickers and as someone who tries to be both creative and fast I rely on sticky alphas a lot! I have a drawer full of Thickers and a shelf of card stock ones. Yes, it’s a bit of an addiction. I’m sure someone can direct me to the appropriate treatment facility!! So … this title is made up of Basic Grey alphabet stickers. Gulp!

The Blossom Builders kit comes with the large pink rhinestones that I used as flower centres AND these itty bitty ones that I felt needed to be scattered a bit across my page. I love these rhinestones and  if they ever bring them out again I am stocking up!!
Well thanks for coming by. Hope you enjoyed my layout. There are only 12 more days to shop the current Idea Book and Catalogue! Can you believe it?! I have looked at the new catalogue and drooled heavily over it but have yet to make any purchases. After Disneyland money is a wee bit tight! That being said, I am planning a Catalogue Launch Party and Retired Product Garage Sale next month. Once I set my dates I’ll be sure to let you know!!
Enjoy the rest of your long weekend everyone!

LOAD Day2 – No Photo Challenge

No photos? What do you mean, no photos? This is a scrapbook challenge, right?

Sigh … the things I do for Lain …

I’ve also been (mostly) participating in Ella Publishing’s Spring Training event and the challenge today was to do some misting with masks – hence the lattice patterns on my paper. The tags were part of a tag swap I did with some of my fellow ScrapHappy members. I came across them in my search for inspiration for a photo-less layout for LOAD. The rest of it came together really quickly after that.

That’s all for now. Thanks for stopping by.

LOAD512

Well, I did it again.
I signed up for Lain Ehman’s LayOut A Day Challenge … LOAD for short. Last time (i.e. February) I didn’t post each layout on my blog but this time, I think I’ll try. We are going to Disneyland with the kids and their Grandparents on Saturday so LOADing will be a challenge … but that is what digital scrapbooking is for and I’m going to try it out. Stampin’ Up! sells a digital design software which I have purchased but had problems installing so never used. Now I will be forced to call Tech Support and get it dealt with once and for all.

But I digress … DAY1 … the prompt was to take a self portrait. Yuck! Lain also gave some additional ideas of how to interpret the prompt and one of them was to take a picture of a body part. Hmm .. I figured that was doable. I set up my trusty tripod (thanks Grandpa Day!) by my drafting table and …

Journalling reads: “My hands … I’ve always seen my Mum in my hands but looking at this picture I realize they are definitely all my own now. They create. They cook. They change diapers and put in pony tails. I think I love them!”
Some close ups for you.

Thanks for stopping by!
