Who’s The Boss? – Parenting vs Partnering

Words on Wednesday

What is your biggest struggle as a parent?

Knowing how to do the new math? Navigating the pick up/drop off zone at their school? Trying to fit in Ballet, Soccer, Basketball, and Band while working 40 hours a week, cooking delicious, nutritious food they’ll eat AND keeping your home from being the next one featured on How Clean Is Your House?

Yeah, it’s a major juggling act, isn’t it?

Two weeks ago I talked about being the adult we want our children to become, which has led me to realize something pretty major. Continue reading

Five Ways to Use up Your Ribbon Stash

Make it Monday - pinkWelcome to Make It Monday!

You may be coming from Karen’s site where she is sharing a couple of her recent creative team layouts! At the end of this post there will be another link so if you missed Karen’s post you can circle through all the links today and get back to hers. We’ve got the largest circle we’ve had yet for 2016. I think we are starting to get back into the blogging groove again. Yay!!

Enjoy all the inspiration!

Today I am talking ribbon. How to use up ribbon to be precise.

I love ribbon. I think it’s pretty. But it tends to stay all pretty and rolled up on the spool, not used on my projects. Time to try and change that!

I’ve got five ideas to share with you today plus a bonus sixth one that comes with a video. Shall we take a look? Continue reading

Playing With my Silhouette Cameo

Welcome to the weekend! Woot! Woot!

Weekends are for playing, yes? For me, that means playing with paper and glue.

A couple weeks ago I added my Silhouette Cameo into the mix and created some super cute 3-D items. Check them out.

I thought I’d throw my hat into the ring for Lori Whitlock’s Design Team Call so went to the Silhouette Design Store and downloaded these super cute projects to try. I know that owl goody bag is going to show up at a birthday party soon!

Here’s each project. Continue reading

If this is Clean Living, I think I’ll get dirty again!

Words on Wednesday

Welcome to Words on Wednesday!

Week Three and what the heck and I going to talk about? I really should get a list of topics going! Actually, I have one, the problem is that it’s in my head and the data retrieval unit I use (i.e. my brain) is getting old and decrepit! And it’s taking the rest of me with it!

I know! Only 42 and she’s already over the hill and gaining speed fast!

This month has been one of “trying to do all the right things” and so far, I’m not enamored of the results. Has that ever happened to you? I suppose you have to get rid of ALL the bad before the good can take effect but you’d think there would be a little consistency along the way, right?

Fair warning: this post may well delve into many matters considered TMI but any woman of a certain age may just get a laugh and give a nod of understanding so plow on if you dare!

Kid’s rooms – Toxic Waste Dumps or Garden of Roses?

minions cleaning1It’s Saturday which – now that we don’t have swimming lessons in the mornings – means Chore Day.

Ugh.

Does anyone else hate motivating their children to help out with the house cleaning? Fancy chore charts aside, somehow ‘motivating’ always turns into ‘yelling really loudly until your children get off their lazy butts to help out’!

Things were going about as smoothly as could be expected this morning, until my almost 12 year old came home. Sigh. She’s not a teen yet but holy moley she can rampage with the best of them! Thinking of teenagers got my creative juices going so I created a little something for my Esty Shop. Continue reading

Parenting in a Culture of Never Enough

Words on Wednesday

Welcome to another Words on Wednesday!

When I first decided to start this series I had a moment of panic (maybe more than one) that finding topics I felt passionately enough about to share in a meaningful blog post would be difficult. Last week’s topic happened naturally after my SIL announced she was going to be on the CBC. But … then what.

Well the answer to that came one night as I was reading a bit more of my latest “self improvement book de jour”. You know what I mean. Those books you buy because your mother/sister/BFF/hairdresser/random-person-on-the-bus raved about it, and then you never read! I have a stack of them on my bedside table (and living room table) that have been haunting me. Some for years! About eight months ago I started working with a group of women online (led by the one and only Lain Ehmann) to improve myself. My views on life. My inner dialogue. My attitudes towards things. My interactions with people and situations. You know, everything! Part of that process was to read. Since then I have been slowly working my way through that stack of books and now I wonder why I waiting so long! Continue reading
