How I do Shabby Chic

Make it Monday with Alison Day Designs2.pngHappy Monday!

Today marks Day One of Spring Break around here. So far so good. Under threat of losing their screen access for the entire two weeks, the younger two are actually off with friends playing at the school. Gasp! Long may it last, am I right?

It’s been awhile since I did an official Make It Monday post. I have jotted down weekly prompts and ideas for myself in my blog planner but … every week something else trumps it. So … are you sitting down? I followed the prompt this week!

Say what?!

I had help though. I recently purchased a magazine at the grocery store because it had some free metal border dies in it. After opening the package I discovered it had more than that! Included was a whole package of shabby chic patterned papers! Awesome!

Now, Shabby Chic is not typically my style. I tend towards brighter, cleaner colours and more whimsical stamps, stickers, and embellishments. But … I’m always up for a challenge so I rolled up my sleeves, got out my Soft Suede ink pad, and got busy! Here are the results of my efforts.

Using All The Greens!

Hello and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Do you celebrate your Irish roots on this day, or this just an excuse to wear green, kiss perfect strangers, and drink green beer (not necessarily in that order)? I haven’t done that Ancestry DNA test to verify, but my 100% British Isles heritage probably has a bit of Irish in it. I’m fairly certain most people born in that part of the world can trace their ancestors back to some Irish rover or another, right?

Now that we have children our celebrations tend to the tame side. A bit of Irish stew and colcannon, maybe some soda bread if I’m of a mind, but rarely more than that. However, there was that one time we took in the festivities in downtown Vancouver that I’ve never scrapbooked … until today! Continue reading

Embracing the Uncomfortable and Going Strong!

On Saturday I shared two cards that I made from the kit that took extra long to get to me – the February Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp. Since then I’ve been diligently making cards. Want to see?

Here is the video showing the next four cards that I made.

There are close ups of each card at the end of the video but here they are again. Continue reading

I Let My 8 Year Old Pick the Papers! Gulp!

It’s almost Spring and that seems to mean Birthday Season. In my house we are a week and a half away from the second birthday of the four that take place between the end of February and the first week of May, and that particular little girl got two party invitations recently. Guess a lot of people figure the Spring is a good time to have kids!

I decided to get her to help make some decisions for the cards she wanted for her friends. So we went through my stash of 6×6 papers from old Simon Says Stamp kits as well as my hoard of 6×6 papers, and she picked out her favourites. There was a lot of rainbow colour schemes involved!

Due to a volleyball tournament on Saturday morning, I wasn’t able to make a card for the party she had later that day, but she helped herself to the papers and made a pretty sweet card of her own. Which left me slightly fewer choices for the second card, but still plenty to work with. See it come together in this video.

Card Kits, Canada Post and Why They Don’t Mix!

Hi guys. Quick post today to share two card process videos with you.

The first one shows you the contents of my February card kit from Simon Says Stamp. Yes, you read that correctly, I said February. It took over a month to reach me thanks to Canada Post and/or Canada Customs. (insert mad emoji here!)

But it finally did show up in my mailbox and I was so excited to see it that I set out to make a couple quick cards. In this first video I share the content of the kit – it’s JAM PACKED with goodies – and then make a card using one of the embossing folders from the kit. There are two !

Here’s the finished card. Continue reading

That’s a Wrap!

Well folks, it’s February 28th. The last day of February and the last day of LOAD218.

What a blast!!

Whether you participated or not, did 28 layouts this month or 1, I hope you enjoyed the process. And I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my layouts come together.

I’ve been working on an album about our trip to the Warner Brothers studio lot outside London for their The Making of Harry Potter experience. It was a jam packed 4 hours on site with hundreds of photos taken, and so many more memories made. When I started the month I had made 4 layouts for album. Now I have two fairly full albums as I added 29 layouts because of LOAD.

As resident scrapbooker and memory keeper, this makes my heart so happy!

So let’s recap the last 6 days, shall we? Starting with …

Day 23 – Hagrid!
