LOAD216 – Days 6 – 12 Roundup

Another week of LOAD216 has passed and I have somehow managed to stay current. Woot! Woot!

Here’s what I made this week. (If you missed my first five layouts you can see them here.)

Day 6 – Snapshots of a Different World

LOAD6 - Snapshots of a Different World by Alison Day Designs

The prompt was about geography so since I’ve decided to use this LOAD to try to get all my ScrapHappy Reunion photos scrapped, I talked about the very different geography of the Phoenix area.

Day 7 – Included

LOAD7 - Included by Alison Day Designs

I believe the prompt for this day was food which was the perfect prompt to tell the story of the yummy food we ate at the Reunion. The hotel was pretty amazing in that regard!

Day 8 – You’re Busted

LOAD8 - You're Busted by Alison Day Designs

The prompt was to use the colours of the Canadian flag and my friend Alice was the featured scrapper. At one point Lain even suggested we scrap about Alice … so I did both! AND I used hearts which was Shimelle’s challenge for this week. Double bonus!

This page has a secret flap. Under that lovely photo of deer is this ..

LOAD8 - under the photo

My photo and story about Alice. I met her IRL on this trip and we shared a room. She’s got an amazing site that you’ve really got to check out!

Day 9 – Miniature Trains

LOAD9 - Miniature Trains by Alison Day Designs

The prompt was trains and since there were no trains involved with the Reunion, I dug into my photos from our road trip last summer and scrapbooked about our visit to the miniature railway in Osoyoos. It’s amazing! If you’re ever in the Okanagan it is totally worth a visit! It was even featured on the Amazing Race Canada!

Here’s each side of the double page layout.

LOAD9 - Left page

In Glitter Girl episode 127 she challenged us to make our own embellishments with our scraps and then use them along with store bought embellishments. So, I did. The embellishments with the scalloped circles in yellow chevron are the ones I am talking about. I die cut a scrap of the yellow chevron into that scalloped circle shape, then layered die cut circles out of scraps of green hearts and the multi colour floral. All these colours and motifs could be found in the ticket print paper so it wasn’t a stretch to use them on this page. then I cut out three camera images from another scrap of paper, popped them up with dimensional adhesive and added an enamel dot in the centre. The largest cluster (pictured above) has a larger camera which is actually a sticker I found in my stash. Awesome when it all comes together, isn’t it?

Day 10 – More of an Obsession

LOAD10 - More of an Obsession by Alison Day Designs

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time then you may know about the house rule we have which goes something like “Soccer Rules, all other sports (unless it’s Ultimate or Rugby) are crap!” I’m kind of joking but not really. My husband is a HUGE fan and player of the game. Our girls had no say in the matter when it came to choosing what sport they were going to play. We purchased a mini soft soccer ball in England when we took her over in 2004 to show her off to my family. It’s ingrained in our collective psyches to eat, drink, sleep, dream soccer.

While I was in Arizona, the Women’s World Cup was going on her in Canada – specifically Vancouver. This particular day was the Canada England match and I was checking Facebook obsessively for score updates when a fellow ScrapHappy sister pulled up the game (via something called a SlingShot) and let me watch it over lunch. How awesome is modern technology? So since the prompt for this day was about past times, this seemed an appropriate story to tell.

Day 11 – Extra Practice

LOAD11 - Extra Practice by Alison Day Designs

The prompt was about language and since I’d already told the only language story from Reunion that I could think of, I grabbed these photos of my middle daughter at summer school. She’s struggled all her life with language so this was a pretty significant part of her story. Since I had so much to say about it, I kept the embellishment of the page fairly minimal. Sometimes less really is more!

Day 12 – Field Trip

LOAD12 - Field Trip

I believe the prompt for this day was recreation. Well, for a group of avid scrapbookers, what’s better recreation than heading to the local scrapbook store? I finally used that piece of Shimelle paper I’ve been hording, er…, saving! Yeah, that sounds better! Seemed appropriate to use it here as I think I mostly bought Shimelle products! I may have a problem!

That’s all for this week. I still have to get today’s LOAD layout done so I’d better get cracking! Next Saturday I’ll have another round up for you. If you can’t wait you can always check out my layouts daily on Flickr.

Thanks! Have a great weekend everyone!
