Us Today – a Special Family Day Inspired Layout

Make it Monday - pinkWelcome to Make It Monday for February 15, 2016!

Did you have a good Valentine’s Day? I know I did. Lot’s of chocolate! Yum!! And my kids each made cards for me and my husband that were so cute. Oh, and my eldest daughter’s afternoon soccer game was cancelled which meant more time for me to spend in my Craft Cave. All around a win win kind of day!

Today you may be coming here from Beth’s site where she is sharing an inperfect bible journaling tutorial. No, I didn’t spell that wrong. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve already read her post! [Edited to add] OR you may be coming from Connie’s site (she was up late last night getting her post finished – Go Connie!) Donut forget to be awesome and have fun planning with Connie! Mmm … donuts …

At the end of this post there will be another link so you can keep going and visit all the wonderful blogs full of inspiration to get your week going.

If you are in the USA then you most likely have the day off today for President’s Day and if you live in other parts of Canada besides BC, then you are probably celebrating Family Day today. We had our holiday last week but I thought it was still a good day to share a layout I made about my family.

 Us Today

Us Today by Alison Day Designs

I made this for a page call at Scrapbook and Cards Today magazine but it wasn’t picked up so I can share it with you instead!

The photo was taken last spring by a local photographer as a fundraiser for our school. We were really pleased with the pictures we got so would use him again! He held the shoot at a nearby winery which has this great old barn. The white washed wood grain paper was perfect to help tell this story!

Many of the elements are from older Gossamer Blue kits that I’m still working my way through. And even though most of the kits I had that were untouched were from the fall, there were enough pinks, florals, and lighter touches to make it appropriate for a Spring photo and a Spring page call.

This card with the gold foil ‘today’ on it was part of a larger acetate sheet full of different images to cut apart. Kind of like the 12×12 journaling card sheets that are quite common in paper lines these days, only done in acetate. It was easy to add ‘us’ and have a good title. The banner above does two things to the page. it helps to bring in that touch of pink and spring feel, as well as bridging the gap between the photo and the title.

I didn’t feel like I needed a ton of journaling so stamping this label shape onto a piece of patterned paper (I know it reads like card stock, the pattern is just super subtle in this part of the paper) and tucking it here alongside the title block was good enough.

Thanks for visiting today. Now you’re off to Carole’s site where she is showing us how to create an alphabet digitally out of string. Sounds pretty cool!

Have a great Monday and a may it be the start to a great week.

See you soon!

Oh, and I know I said last week that I was enjoying making videos for my Make it Monday posts and there isn’t one today. I will make it up to you I promise! Stay tuned to my YouTube channel and my Facebook page this week. I’ll post something … just not sure when or where! Gotta keep you on your toes a bit, right?
