Now that the school year is officially over, I can share a very special project I made recently.
Each year it seems we say goodbye to much loved teachers and Educational Assistants but this year we had to say goodbye to our Principal Ms. Chapman.
She is the type of woman who seemed to polarize the parent (and student) population. You either didn’t like her and were happy to see her term finally end, or you loved her and will miss her greatly. I fall into that second camp, if you didn’t guess!
When I heard she was moving on to another school I knew I wanted to create something special to let us all say goodbye to her. I’ve been commissioned to make a few larger sized cards for groups of people to sign in the past few months so I knew one like that would be perfect. But what to put on the front?
Our school has this fantastic logo so I decided to try and create a cut file out of it.
Yep, that is all cut out with my Silhouette. Love that machine!
I’ll be honest, it took a long time and was super finicky work but SO worth it!
I cut the hornet out of both black and yellow and then pieced it together to give the body the proper stripes. The gloves are coloured in with a gold Wink of Stella pen, and the eye balls with a clear one. The camera didn’t pick up the glitter but in person it looks really cool! The wings are vellum and I didn’t cut them with my Silhouette. Instead I simply glued the vellum to the back of the die cut wings and fussy cut the excess away.
The card is 5.5″ x 8.5″ with several pieces of printer paper inside for additional signatures. I didn’t have a chance to see the card filled with signatures and comments before our PAC President gave it to Ms Chapman but she did send me a note of thanks.
” The card you made me is amazing just like you; so lovely I think I will put it in a little frame. ”
What could be better than that?
Have a great Saturday everyone!
So cute! Really nice job! I’m going to miss her too, but I guess wouldn’t have been at the school anymore anyway!
Thank you. it’ll be an interesting year next year. And we’ll miss you!
