I took some time today to finally play with my April card kit from Simon Says Stamp. To see the reveal of the kit please see the video in this post.
It’s a gorgeous kit full of rainbows and butterflies and apart from one little strip of green paper, I’ve not touched it. Too busy with Clear the Desk layouts I think! But as I got notification today that my May kit is now ready for pick up, I figured I’d better get busy.
So here’s a look at how the first five cards came together.
Card #1 – Stencil + Distress Oxide Inks
I definitely want to play with that stencil some more and see if I can get crisper images. But as a first attempt, I am happy with how this turned out. The stenciling is nice and soft.
Card #2 – All the colours of Distress Oxide Inks
Single layer cards are ones I tend to overlook as I love creating lots of layers with papers and embellishments. But this kit is light on embellishments which means I can turn my attention to the stamps more than I normally do. The little silver dots are so fun too. I wasn’t sure about that foil sheet when I first unpacked the kit but now I’m converted!
Card #3 – Embossing + Water Colour
How gorgeous are those butterflies? I need to try this same technique (the white embossing powder and water colouring with the Distress Oxide inks) but on one of the darker card stocks in the kit. I think that would be stunning!
Card #4 – Mixing Black and White Inks
There were a lot of mistakes made with this card! I’m not sure if you noticed in the video, but at one point I accidentally put the card down on my exposed black Stazon ink pad too. Gulp! That meant I had to rip the green and rainbow papers off the front of that card and adhere them to a new card base. Hopefully no one will notice and it’ll be our little secret, right?
Card #5 – Central Panel Design
After the issues with the last card I needed to keep it simple or risk losing my mind! The silver foil strips keep this card from feeling simple though. Like I said, I’m a fan of the silver foil!
Okay, that’s 5 cards made from this kit. I’ll try and get another 5 done tomorrow before I pick up my May kit. Sort of feel like I should at least make an effort to use one kit before opening the next one! LOL! Look for those cards in Saturday’s post right here.
Until then, happy crafting everyone!
