Hello everyone and welcome to September! I just sent my two youngest off for their first day back at school so it seems a perfect time to write a quick post. I’m not entirely sure where August went. Anyone else feel like that? I took a look at my last post and see it was almost a month ago! Yikes! September always feels like a new beginning for me so I’m determined to get back on track with regular posts here. Hold me to it, okay?
When I last posted I’d just opened up my August card kit from Simon Says Stamp and made a couple of cards with it. Today I’d like to share the other cards I made with this kit and then make a confession.
First up, Card #3 – a birthday card for a dear Aunt.

I remembered to snap a photo of it for Instagram before I popped it in the post. The fence was stamped with Tim Holtz’ Distress Stain (ironically, in Picket Fence!) and then I used a fence embossing folder on it. The two images didn’t line up but I think the effect was very good nonetheless. I achieved the glass effect on the jug by layering a piece of blue vellum over top of the stamped and coloured image. That image has words on it too but I didn’t want them so I just covered them with a piece of scrap white card stock.
Card #4 – a thank you card
For this one I embossed the images with clear embossing powder then used my Distress Oxide inks to colour them in. I liked the idea of the pail over flowing so made sure to have extra images of the flowers that I could cut out and layer onto the card.
Card #5 – Thanks for Everything
I used one of the background images I’d stamped when I was playing with my new colour of Distress Oxide ink as my jumping off point. And then, in an attempt to use all the images on the stamp set, I stamped multiple sentiments and then cut them into strips. The flowers are from the larger wreath image on the stamp set and then I put a large drop of the Nuvo Crystal drops in the middle of each one.
Card #6 – a birthday card
For this one I created a mask of the flowers so I could have them “in front” of the fence. It was a bit tricky but I got there in the end. And that lovely shimmery embossed paper really didn’t need much in the way of embellishment so I just added three little white hearts to finish the card.
Okay, here comes my confession.
This is the last card I made with this kit. I did not make my goal of 10 cards this month. I think my crafting mojo was off becausse I really struggled every time I sat down to create. I even filmed all these cards coming together but technical glitches and the inability to record voice overs due to children running around all day frustrated me so much that I deleted them all! I know!! Crazy right? Anyway, in the spirit of new beginnings, I have packed that kit away and am on to the next one …
September’s kit from Simon Says Stamp
Okay, that’s it for today. Off to work and then soccer practices (times three) start tonight. Here we go!!
Have a great week everyone!
