When you finish a layout, what do you do with all the scraps? All those bits left at the side of your paper trimmer? Do you save them? Recycle them? Immediately make a card or two with them?
Inquiring minds want to know!
Today I’m sharing a layout I made with scraps from my July Gossamer Blue kit.
On this layout are 4 pieces of left over paper scraps plus one full 12×12 sheet. Does it look like more? That could be due to two things. One, the background paper has a collage of patterns on it that makes it look like I have more bits under my main cluster than I actually do. And two, I’ve tucked in a doily and some labels around that main cluster to “fill it out” even more.
Now before you get too excited, the embellishment cluster up at the top left is NOT made from scraps from this kit.
I was digging through my stash looking for my doilies when I came across a half finished pack of die cut embellishments. This is from Crate Paper’s The Pier collection. Guess I’d been hording it for the right layout!! The colours, shapes and layering worked with the rest of my layout so I happily stick it down. Then I added some of the elements from the rest of the layout to help it feel harmonious.
There were other bits in that pack that also worked here too. The piece of Kraft coloured patterned paper with the musical notes on it, the square bit next to it with the heart up on a pop dot, the piece of reddish-pink that you can just see peeking out at the top left corner, the light blue square doily print and the red label. All work together to tell my story and add wonderful texture via layers.
The red touches inspired me to punch out 3 red butterflies from yet another scrap (guess that makes 5 scrap patterns 🙂 ).
I knew I wanted to use the Pink Paislee puffy stickers on this layout. I used the ones with a matte gold/Kraft colour to them which tied in the shiny gold touches from the larger Crate Paper die cut. To further emphasize the touches of gold, I splattered my background paper with some Gold Lame Color Shine from Heidi Swapp and added some gold enamel dots from my June kit.
And there you have it. A layout made (almost) exclusively from scraps and even some older stash items. Win, win!!
Show me how you use your scraps on my Facebook page. I’d love to be inspired by your projects!
