January Colour Challenge at The Memory Nest

Good Monday morning everyone!

Hope you all had a great weekend. My husband was out of town at a ‘Boys Weekend’ so it was just me and my girls. I took the weekend off work to be available to drive hither and yon but it also meant I got some much needed scrappy time. Yay! I will be sharing the results of that time over the next few days starting with this layout.

Love This by Alison Day

I decided to play along with the gals over at The Memory Nest – specifically their Colour Challenge for January. This is the inspiration palette we were to use.

At first glance I thought “oh, what lovely soothing colours”. Then I looked closer and realized this is a palette I rarely create with so put it aside for a bit. I had the photo pinned on my bulletin board and while going through all my Gossamer Blue kits I realized the November one – that I hadn’t really played with yet – was perfect! The background patterned paper in particular. It included the two tones of grey and the gold in the border so all I had to do was add some blue and I was all set! That was easily accomplished with the journaling card and some gorgeous Heidi Swapp paper with arrows (you can barely see it but it’s there!!)

If you’ll look closely at my layout you’ll also see a sunburst made with washi tape. The idea came to me when I read the small print at the bottom of the challenge photo for their twist. The tape was in the kit and sitting out beside my layout as I was putting it together so I figured, why not? It’s a subtle texture to be sure but I kind of love it!

Here are some close ups of the details.

Gossamer Blue has an ongoing challenge that if you create and link up 4 layouts with each kit by the 14th of the following month, each month for 6 months, you are eligible to receive a free album. This has led me to have a rule with myself that I only use what is in the kit when creating those 4 layouts. After that it’s a free for all. I did not create nor link up my 4 layouts for November so I have to start again to earn my album BUT it did mean that I felt it okay to relax my rules a bit. So, the ‘love this’ die cut circle was from a pack of Amy Tangerine die cuts from the October kit, the circular journaling spot was from the September printable sheet (that I completely forgot about in September!) and the clip and arrow stickers were from a sticker sheet also from the September kit.

I also felt perfectly fine with adding some enamel dots from my stash and some Gold Lame Color Shine spray.

Okay, that’s all I have for you today. I’m off to link this up over at The Memory Nest, care to join me?

Have a marvelous Monday!!

Definitely outside my color palette comfort zone, but that cheery yellow shows off perfectly!

Thanks Gina. The day was super grey (actually super foggy!!) so the shots of yellow were needed to cheer it up 🙂

What a beautiful job you did on this layout. I’m glad you added that close up photo because I didn’t even notice the gold splats at first, but they add so much depth to the page. And you can never go wrong with a bit of shimmer! Thanks for joining in on this challenge at the Memory Nest!
