Hello again! On Monday I shared the first of four layouts I completed with my May 2015 Gossamer Blue kits as well as (a lot) of talk about losing my creative mojo and how I am starting to get it back now. Are you ready to see another of those layouts today? I sure hope so because I am in a sharing mood!
One of the things that I used to kick start my creative juices, was Shimelle Lain’s latest workshop called Ready Set Scrapbook. It’s a very inexpensive 3-video workshop that breaks down three of her “go-to” layout designs. My own style has been highly influenced by Shimelle, so learning more about HOW to create in a similar style to hers is always something I will plunk money down for!
This layout was influenced by one of hers in that there is a “special” paper on show, a roughly rectangular photo block, and two areas of embellishment. One area is significantly larger than the other too. The extra patterned papers and journaling cards above the photos help create height as well as a grounding spot for the larger embellishment cluster, my title and some of the journaling.
As someone with a (insert sheepish expression here) large scrapbook stash, I can afford to (and enjoy) piling on the embellishments.
Here’s a closer look at that larger cluster. I used items from the May 2015 kits as well as older items from my Gossamer Blue stash. (I keep all the extra papers, stickers and embellishments that I don’t use each month in a separate area from my “regular” stash. Yes, this does make me slightly Type-A! Deal with it!!)
The ‘Family Forever’ is from the May 2015 stamp set (also the date stamp below) and the card it is stamped on came from the Life Pages Add-On that I purchased. The ‘Oh Snap” card is from a printable sheet from a much older kit and the piece of flair is from Evalicious (again from an older kit).
I tried very hard to use the set of Fancy Pants alphabets that were included in the kit but they were just too mismatched for my style.
See for yourself! Here is an image of what came in the pack.
When I was creating the Dance! layout from Monday’s post, I took all the letters in this package and separated them by style. I thought maybe they’d line up in a way that could work for me. But I found I couldn’t make entire words out of any of the ‘sets’ of letter styles so I gave up altogether. I have put that up for sale on my VarageSale account. Hopefully another crafter can give them a good home!
Here in this smaller embellishment cluster, I have again combined the new with the old. A piece cut from an older Printable sheet, another Evalicious flair badge and a new label and paperclip. If you look at the layout as a whole you will see how the two areas of embellishment frame the photos, helping to draw your eye to them. At least, that was the plan so if the first thing you noticed was the photos then I succeeded!
That’s all for today. As I slowly lighten myself of responsibilities (both paid and volunteer jobs) as well as belongings that are cluttering up my life, I know my creative juices will start flowing with a vengeance. I can’t wait to share what I make with you! Hope you stay tuned!!
