** Update: Winner Winner!**
Thank you to everyone who left a comment. It sounds like we are all in the same boat, organizationally at least! After plugging in the names of everyone who commented, the winner of a spot in Cara’s Practically Perfect Planner class is …
RORI!! Congratulations! I’ll be sending your information over to Cara so expect an email from her soon! See you in class!
Several weeks ago my friend (and fellow Canuck – props to the Red and White!) Cara Vincens of The Hooting Pirate, allowed me an advanced peek at her new class that starts on Monday. It’s called Practically Perfect Planners and believe me when I say that I couldn’t jump fast enough at the opportunity to learn how to make my planner work FOR me rather than against me!
I would love to tell you right now that I have found/made the perfect planner and that I am one of those ridiculously organized women that we all secretly love to hate. But that would be a big fat lie!
Currently the system I am using consists of:
– write everything you think you know is coming up on the big family calender
– keep a digital version in your phone that you randomly add to and forget to transfer to the family calendar so your husband “forgets” to take a child to a party/rehearsal/practice
– jot down To Do lists, grocery lists, chore lists, business plans, blog ideas, scrapbook layout ideas on random pieces of paper which then go into your purse to die or on the kitchen counter to be buried
– and finally, pull your hair out and spin your wheels because you just don’t know what needs to be done next.
Clearly this isn’t working!
Sound familiar?
I can’t wait for Cara’s class to begin on Monday so I can continue on the path she has started and figure out what system fits my needs the best. And I’ll tell you, for me, it’s got to be a system. One book is not going to fulfill all my needs. That was the biggest take-away from my sneak peek into her class. The planners available on the market are a One-Size-Fits-All option. But we are all made differently with different needs! Taking some time to examine those needs first helps us determine what system will work for us forever! Or until you need a new system and then you already have all the skills in place to make that change as quickly and seamlessly as possible.
Intrigued? Want to learn more? This class starts on February 9th and goes until March 22nd. Cara’s got 3 introductory videos explaining the why’s behind the class and a little more of what to expect (plus some great tips) here that should make things a little clearer for you. Also, you can listen to her discuss the class with another friend of mine, Melissa Shanhun of Digital Scrapbooking HQ, on her podcast.
And now for the GIVEAWAY portion of the post!
Want a seat in Cara’s class? Leave a comment here or on my Facebook Page post about this giveaway before midnight on Sunday February 8th and I will draw one lucky winner. Share with your friends! Friends help friends get organized, right? 🙂 If you’ve already paid for registration and you win, you will have your registration fee reimbursed.
Good luck! See you in class!!
Sounds intriguing! I like to think I’m organized but there is always room for improvement! Besides, organizing is one of my favorite things to do!
Me too and yet, I am still hopelessly disorganized!
Would love to see what improvements (i am sure there are many) I could make!
Always room for improvement, right? Good luck with the contest!
I’ve come to realize that my Daytimer isn’t quite what I need. I have 2 other calendars (digital) that I am using as well. I admit that it is a little confusing.
I hear you! Hope Cara’s class can help you!
I am a fairly organized person, but I know my calendar can always be improved upon. I have already gleaned so much from Cara’s pre-class videos and I am thinking of joining her class…so, if I win, BONUS!!! Thanks for the drawing opportunity.
That’s awesome Rori! Good luck!
Yahoo…..I won! Thanks so much Alison for the class! I almost didn’t sign-up and now I am so glad I did. You know…looking at all your scrapbook layouts have inspired me to complete my son’s album from childhood thru high school. You are truly creative and talented and thanks for sharing it with us.
Wow Rori, thank you! You have no idea how much that means to me! Please share that album!! I’d love to see it!
oh, and have fun in the class! I watched Cara’s first video today (isn’t she just so darn cute?!) and am even more fired up to get my planner working for me than ever before.
I purchased the Heidi Swapp planner from Michael’s and also took her class. The planner is working fine but I feel I need a little more guidance. I think Cara’s class would be “a practically perfect fit”
🙂
Thank you for offering a chance to win a seat in her class.
Oh, lucky you! Her planners are so pretty!
I keep trying to combine all the ways I organise – two calendars for different settings, multiple To-Do lists, transferring information from one planner to another, multiple A-Z books to keep track of books I have read and films I have seen and other information.
This year, inspired by multiple YouTube videos, I wanted to get my organisation into one planner, to make it pretty and fun. Cara’s Class would make a big difference to my understanding of how to set up and use an effective planner.
Many Thanks
I fell away from working regularly. Maybe getting my plan in place will help me get back to work.
I hear you Gina! That is the most disorganized area of my life too!
One of the reasons I finally got a cell phone was because I thought the apps would help me get organized. Ha! I’m More Disorganized than ever! I think I need to have stuff written down in something like an agenda I used to use for school. I Suppose it would help if I only had to think of myself, but seeing that’s not going to happen for the next 6-11 years, I best get my poop in a group, eh? Thanks for sharing this course, Alison, it looks really cool!
“Poop in a group”! Snort!! You crack me up Roxy!
I always think I am organized, but in reality, not so much. Maybe this would help.
LOL Libby! I totally WAS an organized person … and then I had kids!
I would love a chance to win a spot in Cara’s planner class. I use multiple calendars, slips of paper, month at a glance calendar in the planner and day planner, but the pages are so empty. I think I should write things in a book instead of on slips of paper which end up all over the house and I can never find them when I need them. A personalized planner would help me, guide me to getting things in places where I can find them days weeks or months later when I can’t remember what else I did with them. lol. Thanks for the chance. ;o)
You sound like a kindred spirit Mariane!
I would so much like to be the lucky one
Good luck Mary!
