Are You Feeling Lucky?

I’m a bit late posting this. I blame a wicked head cold that came on suddenly Monday night! Knocked me out for a couple days. I’m still far from better but at least I feel somewhat human again!! Barring the pounding and relentless sinus headache that is.

But enough wingeing!!

I have an art journal page to share for the monthly feature over at Practical Scrappers. Seeing as Monday was St. Patrick’s Day we were inspired by the prompt “Lucky me”! We also were given the additional challenge of incorporating collaged elements into our page.

Here’s what I created.

Art Journal page - Lucky by Alison Day for Practical Scrappers

I wanted to use photos of my family members as well as pictures of nature. Tomorrow is the first official day of spring but the signs have been appearing locally for several weeks. The weather has been less than spring-like however so I thought creating a little garden on my page would put me in a better mood about that! I printed my photos onto to regular printer paper so I could more easily adhere them to the page. The other images are all cut from magazines.

I kind of like how it looks like we are all growing in the garden too!

To start my page I gessoed the paper and once it was dry painted two different shades of green acrylic paint over top. I used a palette knife to apply the paint instead of a brush. It gives a slightly different texture – less smooth, more rustic. Once the paint was dry I started gluing my collage elements down and then accenting them with various shades of green Gelatos.

The words were stamped with black Stazon ink and then I added sprinkles of black India ink and Gold Lame Color Shine for added texture.

Be sure to check out the other art journal pages on the Practical Scrappers blog. It’s so fun to see how different our styles are and how differently we interpret the same prompt.

If you liked this post, say thanks by sharing it with your friends.
